How Local Partnerships Turned into Real Impact
Reliabank Helps Direct $619,500 to South Dakota Organizations Through FHLB Member Impact Fund
Reliabank, in partnership with Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines), is proud to help direct $619,500 in funding to South Dakota nonprofits and community organizations through the FHLB Member Impact Fund. Pictured above are our employees from Sioux Falls branch alongside James Lee of Federal Home Loan Bank, and employees from our Watertown North branch holding a check for our full donation amount.
Of that total, $442,500 comes from FHLB Des Moines matching grants, bringing outside dollars into eastern South Dakota to support affordable housing, economic development, youth programs, and essential community services.
Across the FHLB Des Moines region, this matching program will distribute more than $12.9 million this year to strengthen communities — multiplying the impact of local giving.
This funding supports organizations in Watertown, Sioux Falls, Hartford, and surrounding communities — reinforcing Reliabank’s commitment to investing locally.
What Is the FHLB Member Impact Fund?
The FHLB Des Moines Member Impact Fund is a matching grant program that allows member banks like Reliabank to amplify local donations. The program supports:
-
Affordable housing initiatives
-
Community development programs
-
Job training and workforce development
-
Financial literacy education
-
Food access and youth services
Since launching in 2023, the Member Impact Fund has distributed over $83 million in grants, generating more than $113 million in total community support across its region.
Supporting Affordable Housing and Community Growth in South Dakota
Many funded organizations serve individuals and families facing housing instability, financial hardship, or crisis situations.
Reliabank recently presented a $49,000 grant to Beacon Center in Watertown, which supports survivors of domestic violence and individuals rebuilding after traumatic events. Funding from this program provides direct financial assistance, transitional housing support, and long-term stabilization resources.
At the same time, the impact extends to long-term economic growth. Reliabank also presented a $35,000 check to Hartford Area Development Foundation, helping fund infrastructure and capital improvements that attract new businesses and revitalize existing ones — strengthening the local economy and creating future opportunity.
Together, these investments reflect the full scope of community development — from immediate housing stability to long-term economic momentum.
Bringing Outside Funding Into Local Communities
Reliabank President and CEO Josh Hogue shared:
“At Reliabank, we’re proud to partner with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to match funds that bring outside dollars into the places we call home. When our communities rise, we rise with them.”
Through this partnership, Reliabank multiplies local giving — ensuring nonprofits and development organizations have the capacity and working capital needed to serve families and strengthen communities across eastern South Dakota.
