Hometown Heroes: Jerrit P.

At Reliabank, we believe that every community has its own set of hometown heroes. These are the people who work hard behind the scenes to make sure their community thrives. They may not be in the spotlight, but they’re the ones who make a difference in our communities every day.

That’s why Reliabank is proud to recognize the heroes of our communities with the Hometown Hereos award.

This week’s Hometown Hero is Jerrit Pedersen of Colton, SD.

Jerrit is the Public Works Superintendent for the City of Colton, and he is also the 1st Assistant Fire Chief for the Colton Fire Department. Upon having a single conversation with Jerrit, it is easy to get a sense for his authenticity, his gratitude, and his humbleness.

In regard to personal and professional accomplishments, Jerrit is most proud of his wife and three kids, and his daily experiences serving his community as a part of the Colton Fire & Rescue. Jerrit’s parents were both members of the fire department, and as a child it inspired him to see them being there for people when they needed help.

A defining moment for Jerrit was when he was able to assist in his community after the flooding a few years ago. Helping countless people restore their sense of normalcy certainly made an impact on the city of Colton, and brought definitive purpose to Jerrit’s objective to help as many people as possible.

Jerrit says, “you can choose right, or you can choose wrong, but you have to choose something,” and his choice has undoubtably been an admirable one. The Colton community is fortunate to be protected by a volunteer as genuine and hardworking as Jerrit.
