4 hacks to cut your spending and save money

It’s no secret that a lot of people worry about their finances. Trying to squeeze as much as possible out of your paycheck each month can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. If you want to save money and cut back on unnecessary spending, there are several easy hacks that you can use right away! These 4 budget-friendly tips will help make your money go further this year. So get ready – let’s discover how cutting back on expenses could benefit us all.

#1. Take shopping apps off your phone

Have you ever found yourself mindlessly adding items to your shopping cart that are totally unnecessary? With the convenience of store apps on our phones, it’s just too easy to hit “purchase” without a second thought. Why not take those apps off and build an extra barrier between buying impulsively online – you’ll think twice before hitting buy after having to get off the couch.

#2. Setup online bill pay

Online bill pay enables you to view, schedule and pay your bills right from your computer, tablet or mobile phone. Online bill pay works by deducting a payment from your account balance and transferring it to a service provider. Rather than sending a check to your electric company via mail, for example, you can have your payment deducted electronically in the form of a one-time or recurring payment. Some of the most common payment examples are for:

 • Utilities like gas and electricity
 • Phone, cable and internet
 • Rent or mortgage
 • Credit cards
 • Auto loans
 • Gym memberships
 • Ongoing charitable donations

#3. Eat leftovers

Once you make a meal, don’t let what’s left after dinner die a slow and moldy death in a Tupperware coffin in your fridge. That wastes food and money. Put that food to good use. Enjoy it for lunch the next day or put a leftovers night on the meal plan calendar for the week. Think “ingredients,” not “leftovers.” Create burritos with leftover cooked rice, meat and vegetables, and top them with sour cream and salsa.

This keeps you from buying new meals every mealtime, and it’s a super easy way to stop spending money.

#4. Make the switch to a new bank

If you’re paying service fees for your checking or savings account, it’s time to figure out how to reduce those costs. Many other bank accounts charge monthly fees. While it can seem like a daunting process, switching banks can actually be quite simple—and it could save you time and money in the long run!

We’ve created a Reliabank Make the Switch kit. This digital kit provides everything you need to setup, switch and start banking with Reliabank.
